Don’t ask me why, but I have had an obsession with soothing voices about since I can remember. Now that Youtube’s been invented, this obsession has apparently eaten up my life and I will happily spend hours re-watching the same bit of footage over and over again in some kind of disturbingly infantile compulsion to be soothed. So, consider this a labour of love. As in, if you don’t agree with my soothing voice selection, stuff it. Case in point – a housemate of mine (we’ll call him Bagpuss) described Dianne West’s voice as “a female version of Stephen Hawking’s computer voice.” Needless to say, Bagpuss is dead to me. Unlike the actual Bagpuss, which is coming soon to a people with soothing voices blog near you.

There are few rules here. The only one is that I refuse to include any voices that have been recorded with the sole intention of being soothing. Also references to babbling brooks are entirely banned. It’s all about the unwitting soothe here. Or, should I say, soothe au naturale. If that’s spelt right. Sure.

One more word of advice. For the ultimate in soothe, you may wish to turn your volume down just a little lower than is usually comfortable. This isn’t about the content of the speech, remember, it’s about being gradually soothed into a vacant stupor.

Here is nice one I found on YouTube that was posted by “inkstainedlips”. You can also search for “black cat halloween”.

That is quite soothing, but I have to confess to being a bit freaked out by the speeded up Evanescence music in the background.

Another video that I have found is Jacqueline Kennedy’s White House tour. You can search for it on Hulu.com or this link might work:

I have watched this video about 15 or more times. I haven’t found a voice as soothing as this artist, she is a very engaging as well.

I love this site. I also spend endless ours searching for soothing voices on youtube. I have found many promising videos (in fact I made a soothing voices playlist years ago). I don’t know how to post videos, but I can post links:
This one is a massage, she it’s kind of cheating because she is trying to be soothing. But I have watched it upwards of 50 times. When I was in my dorm room, I would listen to it when I had tests and people were drunk and banging around:

This video is terrible, because it’s basically a porn star interview, but her voice is just so soothing. The content is PG13, but the voice is awesome. The guy in the background sucks though because his voice is horrible! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJiEcArM93M
She does accents and I love it:

This woman makes Henna Paste (I like the sound of mixing things and such):

This woman shows you how to do laundry, but I love her voice:

    I’m going to bed now…

I’m not alone. Thank God, I’m so happy. I’ve been collecting videos and listening to the same bits while I do my guitar reps and it’s like my form of meditation. Thank you, so much, whoever made this!
I am going to start my own blog as well to post my personal favorites. And to whoever’s reading, I hope you come check mine out too so maybe we can all share with eachother! 😀
